Educational Exchange to St.Marks, London

The Norwegian Continence and elvic Floor Health centre (Kompetansesenter for inkontinens og bekkenbunnsykdom) has establised an educational exchange program in cooperation with Professor Chrisitne Norton, St. Marks Hospital, at their biofeedback clinic.

KIB is offering two healthcarepofessionals participation with this program each year. The program is open for applicant for other hospitals and health regions.

St. Marks Hospital is a national and international referral centre for intestinal and colorectal disorders and has clinical services covering all aspect of colorectal diseases and intestinal failure. In addition, the hospital has many research interests and a very active program of teaching and education. This is the leading clinic within conservative treatment for fecal incontinence in England.

The Educational Exchange Program

The educational exchange program between St.Marks and The Norwegian Continence and Pelvic Floor Centre, UniversityHospital in Tromsø serves several missions: 

  1. establish an international clinical educational arena for health professionals with interest within the field of urinary and /or  fecal incontinence and pelvic floor health.
  2. facilitate learning within a multidisciplinary team, and  gain knowledge about multidisciplinary approaches both clinically and  theoretically.
  3. establish network that promotes scientific collaborations and encourage exchange of theoretical and clinical knowledge and expertise.

Specific Educational Aims:

The educational aims will at some extent depend upon the exchange. This means there are some aims being specific for Norwegians visiting St. Marks, and other aims specific for the UK visitors visiting Tromsø. 

 Specific for Norwegians:

  1. To gain knowledge about  the St.Marks’s biofeedback services
  2. To gain Knowledge about NICE guidelines for faecal/urinary incontinence
  3. To gain knowledge about baseline assessment and initial management of patients with fecal/urinary incontinence
  4. To gain knowledge about the multidisciplinary team work around the patients.

 Specific for the UK visitors:

  1. To gain knowledge about The Norwegian Continence and Pelvic Floor Centre
  2. To gain knowledge of the multidisciplinary approaches to patient care and health professional education/teaching   

 Practical Details

  • The exchange will be for 3 full days for two or three health professionals
  • There will be one NorwayUK exchange, and one UK- Norway exchange each year
  • Each service centre determines the procedure of  selecting the participants  
  • Dates for Norway- UK exchange 2009:  Mars (week 13??)
  • Dates for UKNorway exchange 2009:  October (week 41??)
  • The name of the participant must be known at least 6 weeks before the travel
  • Educational Exchange  Program Coordinator in Norway is Mona Stedenfeldt, director of The Norwegian Continence and Pelvic Floor Centre

The Norwegian Continence and Pelvic Floor Health Centre arrange plane tickets and accommodation. Expenses for food must be covered by the participants.
